On this day 51 years ago, the Stuttgart Ballet performed in New York City for the first time. On June 10th, 1969, John Crankos Onegin opened a series of performances running for a total of three weeks at the Metropolitan Opera House.

On this day 42 years ago Kenneth MacMillan’s ballet about siblings living in claustrophobic isolation premiered in Stuttgart.

On this day 45 years ago Jiří Kylián’s final version of Return To A Strange Land was premiered. A year earlier, the Czech choreographer had created a first version dedicated to John Cranko, who had died in 1973.

ON THIS DAY … 33 years ago Marcia Haydée’s The Sleeping Beauty saw the light of day. Having danced in numerous versions during the course of her career, the prima ballerina / ballet director / choreographer finally decided to mount her own production of this beloved fairytale in 1987. And how she did it!

The day of our second performance has arrived. As sometimes happens on tour with a debut! Clemens Fröhlich danced the role of Prince Gremin for the first time. Naturally, this adds to the excitement of the Performance.

Finally the day of the first performance has arrived! We give a big cheer and lots of appreciation and a huge thanks to our entire technical crew and their colleagues from the lighting department who performed miracles here in Beijing to ensure that the curtain went up on a picture perfect set.

It is our third day in China; in the evening is the dress rehearsal of Onegin. Today we want to extend a special thank you to our tour diary photographer Roman Novitzky who is taking the time to document our daily life here for all our fans at home and around the world, although he is dancing in two out of three performances here in Beijing.

Greetings from Beijing! After a long day of travel on Monday, and a much needed day of rest for the dancers on Tuesday – which many spent travelling to the Great Wall of China – class and rehearsals for John Cranko’s Onegin started in the Tianqiao Theatre, home of the National Ballet of China.
