Vita

Clemens Fröhlich was born in Pforzheim and grew up in Mönsheim, Germany. At the age of six years he began his ballet training at the Katharina Damian ballet school in Schellbronn. Four years later he went to Stuttgart to attend the John Cranko School. As a student he danced the role of Edward III in David Bintley’s Edward II. In 2010 he graduated under the famous ballet pedagogue Petr Antonovich Pestov.

In the 2010/11 season Clemens Fröhlich became an apprentice with the Stuttgart Ballet under Artistic Director Reid Anderson, one season later he became a member of Stuttgart Ballet’s Corps de ballet.

In the 2014/15 season Clemens Fröhlich decided to join Dutch National Ballet in Amsterdam, Netherlands. There he worked with renowned choreographers such as David Dawson, Wayne Eagling, Hans van Manen, Justin Peck, Alexei Ratmansky, Toer van Schayk, Christopher Wheeldon, Sir Peter Wright or Juanjo Arqués, Ted Brandsen, Peter Leung and Annabelle Lopez Ochoa who have created roles specially on him.

At the beginning of the 2018/19 season and with the new Artistic Director Tamas Detrich Clemens Fröhlich returned to the Stuttgart Ballet. In the following season he was promoted to Demi-Soloist. Since the 2022/23 season he is a Soloist with the Stuttgarter Ballet.

The choreographers Fabio Adorisio, Edward Clug, David Dawson, Marco Goecke, Johan Inger, Katarzyna Kozielska, Christian Spuck and Louis Stiens have created roles on him.

From 2021 to 2023 he successfully completed a qualification as ballet pedagogue at the John Cranko School. At the same time he started to study choreology (Benesh Movement Notation) at the Royal Academy of Dance/ Benesh International in London in 2021, from which he will graduate in 2025. In the context of the shooting of the film CRANKO (which premiered in October 2024) and the Gala on the 50th Anniversary of John Cranko’s Death in 2023 he restaged John Cranko’s ballet Opus 1 with the Stuttgart Ballet using the original scores.
